Acupuncture Aids in Quitting Smoking

Denver Daily News, June 2007, by Jeff Faudem

If your new year’s resolution is to stop smoking I have 3 suggestions for you.

The first one is the boldest and least expensive way to get the job done. Bite the bullet and stop cold turkey. For this method to succeed you must be first of all very dedicated to quitting. This takes commitment, drive and patience. They say that nicotine stays in your bold system for two to three days. This fact may address the “physical “cravings but the “habit” aspect is (in my opinion) the toughest. The second method is Hypnosis.

This is a very popular way for putting out this bad habit. However it may be a bit costly, there has been research that suggests it works better for men than woman. This method may take a few times to work. It is important to be patient and focused. The third is Acupuncture. Different practitioners offer different programs. Usually it consists of ear acupuncture. The 10th cranial nerve (the vagus nerve) becomes most superficial at the ear. These specific five points are used in drug and alcohol rehab facilities all over the world. Some clinics can focus not only on reducing cravings but combating them though certain techniques and help to detoxify as well as breaking the “habit” for the cigarette smoker. Each smoker exhibits unique patterns that should be addressed.
