Sleep Problems
Sleep problems affect millions of American every
night and day. We are constantly bombarded with
commercials about sleep and various medications
to help us get a better nights rest. Many of these
medications have a number of side effect including
addiction, and yield such warnings as “don't operate
any heavy machinery while taking.”
The Importance of Sleep
It should be apparent that sleep is one of the
most important aspects of a person’s life. Basically
most of the “house keeping” effects in human beings
occur during sleep. It’s a time when our bodies
build up or restore their vital energies and prepare
for the next day. Our immune system, our psychological
capabilities and our nervous system rely heavily
on proper sleep.
Solutions for Problems Sleeping
Here are a few suggestions that might help a person
sleep better. If the problem is not being able to
shut off the mind, a warm foot bath may be in order.
In Chinese Medicine, we say "to turn off the
mind we work on the feet." Many good acupuncture
points for insomnia are on and around the feet and
a nice warm foot bath can relax the mind and help
a great deal. Some additional therapies that can
help are a nice hot bath and a bit of lavender oil
on the pillow or under the nose.
For more difficult insomnia patients, acupuncture,
herbal formulas and diet adjustments can make a
significant impact on sleep problems. Contact us
